Reducing our plastic impact

Reducing our plastic impact

Reducing our plastic impact

At tooshies, we’re committed to reducing the plastic content in our products.

While we’re really proud that all our baby wipes and accessories are 100% plastic free, the technology doesn’t currently exist to make a plastic-free disposable nappy that will actually work.

Our donation program with Waste Revolution enables us to have a better impact on the amount of plastic that ends up in landfill or in our environment.

Through our partnership with Waste Revolution, and their Impact Partners - Plastic Forests and BlazeAid, we are helping to recycle over 7,500kg of plastic and repurpose that plastic to help communities and farms rebuild after natural disasters.

So, why is plastic an issue anyway?

Over 350 million tonnes of plastic is being produced each year and only approx. 9% of this is being recycled, so the majority ends up in landfill, our oceans and our environment. It can take more than 350 years to break down.

Disposable nappies are said to make up 2.5% of landfill currently.

Approx. 10 million tonnes of plastic ends up in our oceans each year, devastating marine ecosystems.  This is the equivalent of 1 truckload of plastic every single minute!

Unfortunately, it can be difficult for companies to reduce their plastic. It is durable, versatile, low cost and preserves food & cosmetics, allowing companies to meet consumer health & safety regulations.

How does plastic have negative impacts?

Environmental Effects

There are an estimated 100 million marine animals killed each year from plastic pollution. Plastic is mistaken for food and once ingested can cause severe internal injuries.

Greenhouse Gas emissions

Plastic accounts for 3.8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. This is almost double the emissions of the entire aviation sector.

Health

The plastic we dump into our oceans eventually makes its way into our food. One study suggests that the average person ingests 5 grams of plastic per week. The equivalent of eating a credit card every seven days.

“Our mission is to prevent plastic leakage into oceans, stimulate a truly circular economy, help companies be accountable for their plastic pollution and incentivise plastic reduction by putting a price on plastic waste. All while providing profound social benefits.”

Waste Revolution

tooshies Partnership with Waste Revolution

  1. tooshies will be donating a portion of profits to Waste Revolution
  2. The funds go to Plastic Forests to aid in the recycling of soft plastics and turn them into fence posts
  3. Those fence posts are donated to Blazeaid and are distributed to Australian farmers to help farms rebuild after natural disasters
